Let’s be real—every DJ starts with the love.
The thrill of dropping a track that shakes the room. The late nights spent digging through crates or clicking through Serato, trying to find the perfect blend. That moment when a crowd catches the vibe and it’s all eyes on you.

But at some point, that passion turns into profit.
And the question gets real:
Do you DJ for enjoyment, or for employment?

It Starts with Enjoyment

Most of us didn’t pick up DJing for the money—we picked it up because we felt something.
For me, it was about control, creativity, and connection. I wasn’t chasing clout. I was chasing the feeling.

You know the one—when you loop a sample just right or ride an acapella perfectly into a beat drop. That spark? That’s enjoyment. That’s art. And that’s why so many of us keep going, even when there’s no crowd, no tips, and no applause.

 But Let’s Talk Business…

Here’s where it gets serious: gear isn’t cheap. Gas isn’t free. And time is the one thing we don’t get back.

So yeah—I DJ for a check, too. I charge for gigs because my skills hold value. I’ve spent years perfecting my sound, upgrading my setup, and building a reputation. DJing is my job. And I’m proud of that.

But the key is this: The money never replaces the love.
It fuels it.

 What Keeps Me Going?

The enjoyment keeps me grounded.
The employment keeps me focused.

I’ve DJ’d everything from nightclubs to bodybuilding events at sunrise. Some weeks, I pull more from gigs than from my day job—and I still show up early, work clean, and leave every room better than I found it.

DJing isn’t just my passion anymore. It’s my business.
But I’ll never let the business kill the passion.

So… Which One Are You?

Do you spin for fun?
Do you spin for funds?

Or maybe, like me, you spin because you were born to—and the rest just came with the grind.

Whatever your answer is, own it. And if you're serious about either path, make sure your gear matches your goals. At Platinum Records, we’ve got everything you need—whether you’re building your brand or just vibing in your bedroom.

Final Word:

"Love the craft. Respect the business. Never lose the balance."
